Chrissy Teigen has opened up about postpartum depression before, including in an essay for Allure last year and tweets in June about how “lonely” it can be.

In a recent interview with CBS Sunday Morning‘s Rita Braver, Teigen said that eating her placenta after the birth of her second child Miles might have allowed her to avoid postpartum depression.
In the interview special, which airs Friday night, Teigen reveals what she did the second time around to combat depression. Braver jests, “I don’t think I can have you eating your placenta on primetime,” to which Teigen replies: “Really? That’s not a normal thing? I’m in L.A., it’s very normal. They grill it here! You can try some of mine after.”
There are differing opinions as to whether placenta is beneficial. It is a centuries-old practice, but according to the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, “the evidence for positive effects of human placentophagy is anecdotal and limited to self-reported surveys.”
Still, it appears to have helped Teigen, and she gave a reason for why she’s been so open about her struggles as a new mom: “I think people on social media are my friends. And I think they deserved to know. I don’t know, is that so weird?”
