Seth Rogen and The Lonely Island are planning a Fyre Festival film

If two documentaries highlighting the failure of the Fyre Festival wasn’t enough, now Seth Rogen and The Lonely Island are hoping to cash in on the event’s misfortune, too.

Fyre Festival was billed as the greatest music festival to date. Promoted by the hottest Instagram influencers and top supermodels, the Bahamas-based event was scheduled in 2017.

Needless to say, it failed and failed hard. Despite attendees forking over thousands of dollars for tickets, ill planning and a lack of funds left the island full of people with a lack of basic necessities like water and food. Founder Billy McFarland found himself in prison.

If you feel like the scenario is right out of a film, you’re not alone. Following the release of the Netflix and Hulu documentaries detailing how the festival went so wrong, actor Seth Rogen took to Twitter. “For real, thinking about suing #FyreFestival for stealing our idea,” he wrote.

Turns out he had been planning to do a film with the comedy trio The Loney Island with a similar storyline before the festival even occurred. And they’re not letting its failure stop their project.

In an interview with the Daily Beast, The Lonely Island’s Jorma Taccone says the project is still in motion.

“I don’t want to divulge all the details, but we’re figuring it out right now,” he said. “You’ve seen the docs, right? It’s crazy.”

“This is something that [Akiva Schaffer] and Seth cooked up, and we’re figuring it all out right now,” he continued.
